Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich
Thanksgiving is all about family, football, and…Chicken Fried Steak? If you don’t think about it, it honestly still doesn’t make any sense. Let me explain. Since 1966, the Dallas Cowboys have been hosting a Turkey Day football game (Read the SERIOUSLY cool history, here). They either play the noon game or the evening game. The middle game is a “Prime Time” Game between 2 actual good teams. Anyway, Texas as a whole is known for a bunch of different foods: Brisket (<—Check Mine Out!), Chile con Queso, and of course, Tex-Mex. Dallas specifically, has it’s own thing, though…Chicken Fried Steak. With Dallas’ rich history of playing on Thanksgiving, I got creative and made: Thanksgiving Style Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich!
The “Thanksgiving” Slaw
If I made Sandwiches, why am I show you Slaw? And what in the hell makes it “Thanksgiving”, you ask? Oh, you didn’t ask? I don’t care. In all honesty, the reason I am calling it “Thanksgiving” is the addition of Cranberries and Pecans. These are both absolute staples in the world of Turkey Day. On top of that, Pecans are HUGE in Texas. The slaw is perfection with the Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich! The sweetness from the Cranberries, earthiness from the Pecans, and acidity from the ACV (that’s what the cool kids call Apple Cider Vinegar), it balances the richness from not only the buttery Bread but the fried Steak, as well.
The Kaiser Roll: The mild flavored Roll is perfect for this! A little crunch on the outside and soft on the inside with that great buttery flavor.
Whole Cranberry Sauce: Some sweet, some tart, Allll canned goodness.
Chicken Fried Steak: Crunchy on the outside, Steak on the inside!
“Thanksgiving” Slaw: The perfect cut of acid through this rich Sandwich.
Gravy: Traditional Country Fried Steak comes with gravy, so here is a Perfect Beer Gravy Recipe! This will go perfect with this Sandwich! The Slaw and Cranberry Sauce will keep it balanced.
