This has to be one of the most American things, ever! I mean, I literally took something that is filled with fruit (and sugar…) and placed chopped Bacon and Bourbon into. Then, slapped the title of “Jam” on to it! Freedom isn’t free, it comes with a side of cholesterol. Let’s be real though, whoever doesn’t want this Bourbon Bacon Jam on a Burger or as a dip…are you even American? Yea, but come on! JUST TRY IT!
A Recipe In It’s Own Category

I honestly don’t even know what category to put this in! The way I used it (coming up later!) was more of a sauce, but it isn’t really a sauce. You could make a dip out of it…idk.
Anywho, I have been making Candied Bacon for years. I make it for breakfast, for a topping to my Mac and Cheese, hell, I make it for a late night snack. I had been on the ‘ol Pinny (Speaking of which, check out my Pinterest page!) and Bacon Jam kept popping up! Like I said in the first paragraph, I think this is one of the most American ideas ever and I was seeing it around the 4th. So, let me show you what I made this succulent, sweet/savory treat on!

Speaking of my Mac and Cheese! Check out the Recipe!
Bourbon Bacon Jam Burger (The 1776)

“Take a look at this BEAUT!” -Steve Irwin (pour some out for my homie).
Here in Madison, it was Burger Week(s). Even though I’m not a restaurant, I got in on the fun! I wanted to be creative, but wanted it to be a classic. At it’s core, this is a Bacon Cheeseburger with Lettuce, Tomato, and Pickles. Creatively, it is a Bourbon Bacon Jam Burger with Charred Romaine, Smashed Cherry Tomatoes, and Pickled Cucumbers.
Could you image throwing one of these back before a game?! What a heavenly experience that would be! Take down The 1776 and then go watch the Packers beat the shit out of the Vi-Queens, Giannis and the Bucks annihilate Embid, or the Badgers lay waste to Thee Ohio State? (Okay, sorry about that last one…I’m a realist and know the Burger would be the best part of that day…)
The Stack (in picture form)
Charred Romaine: Drizzle with Olive Oil and Salt, Add to Cast that is Ripping hot
Smashed Tomatoes: Olive Oil, Salt, Pepper, Balsamic Vinegar, Cast Iron. Perfection
Pickled Cucumbers (not pictured): Vinegar, Water, Salt, Sugar…Cucumbers!
Bacon Jam: Literally, just read the entire post…
Seriously, make the Jam, then make the Burger or just make something, ANYTHING! It will be great on it!

Bourbon Bacon Jam
Ingredients
- 1 lb. Bacon
- 1 c. Red Onion (minced)
- 4 Garlic Cloves (fine mince)
- 1/3 c. Water
- 1/2 c. Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1/4 c. Brown Sugar
- 1/3 c. Bourbon
- 1/4 c. Molasses
- 1/4 tsp. Cayenne (optional)
- 1/4 tsp. Black Pepper
- 1 tbsp. Butter (unsalted)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F. Once preheated, place Bacon (on cookie sheet) into oven. Bake for 20 minutes. Pull and minced once cooled.
- While Bacon is cooking, place Butter into medium sauce pan turned to medium-low. Once Butter is bubbling, add Onion. Once Onion is translucent add Garlic for 1 more minute.
- Add Water. Once Water begins to bubble, add Brown Sugar. Stir until evenly incorporated.
- Add all other ingredients, including Bacon.
- Let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Put this on literally everything!
Notes
This goes well with everything! It adds a sweetness to the savory food and adds a saltiness to desserts!
Hell, you can use this as a dip! Throw it on some Ritz and you’ll be a happy camper.
You don’t have to use Cayenne, but the subtle heat is amazing!
